To His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of All Romania and Metropolitan of Ungro-Vlachia and Archbishop of Bucharest
Your Beatitude, beloved brothers and sisters in Christ,
300 years ago, one of the greatest saints Anthimoz of Iberia, the illustrious mediator for the Rumanian and Georgian peoples before God, joined the saints.
When we study his life, Divine Providence amazes us: Why did it happen that a Georgian person laid the foundation for the revival of the Rumanian Church and State on the national ground?! Perhaps, because the true Christian love was to be revealed, for it is evident that, on the one hand, Saint Anthimoz of Iberia led a selfless struggle for nationality and on the other hand, he demonstrated that true neighbour does not have nationality but ministry to God prevails over this feeling in his understanding. Certainly, this is completely different from cosmopolitanism.
The simplicity of the Rumanians, their love for God and their goodness strengthened Saint Anthimoz to generously give out love throughout the 26 years of his ministry – to build dozens of churches, work in various fields of art, be a philosopher, a theologian, an interpreter and an organizer of publishing work in Rumania who made this country the centre of international publishing; inter alia, he founded the first publishing house in Georgia.
His personality helps generate a different attitude between our countries and our Churches, draws us close to each other with a different power and grace, and once again reminds us all that our lives and deaths should only be in service to Truth.
With the prayers of Saint Anthimoz of Iberia, may God grant us peace and spiritual edification.
